How close are we, to becoming the parent or grandparent God has called us to be? Some days when you look back, you can ponder different angle’s of a past event, to glean a lesson out of it, or to ponder deeper meanings of what God was teaching you. I’ve done that in this particular posting.

I used to hang laundry outside, so to think Our Lord’s Mother did the same thing, as I have done, brings a new closeness, to Our Blessed Mother and Our Lord, for teaching us, an ever new and evergreen lesson; as a parent or grandparent.

So, today I learned a new lesson from Our Littlest Lord. And, as Mother’s Day approaches, I wonder “How well did I really do?”

In looking up on Yahoo, information on George Lindsay who played Goober Pyle on the “Andy Griffith Show” there was a “hyperlink” to a song he may have been associated with, or perhaps it was a theme song to a movie he acted in. If he did act in a movie of that title, then perhaps he needs me to pray for him, in case he is in Purgatory.

When my sons were toddlers, I had no idea how allowing that song, on the radio, affected my son; until I heard him singing it, around my company. Kids will embarrass you, big time! And, teach you to mind your P’s and Q’s. For, what it’s worth God gently taught me, through even misguided humor; that kids will follow you as a parent: hook, line and sinker, so you better watch what you say, or do, or listen to; on the Radio or watch on TV.

So, what is the name of the song?

“Take this Job and Shove It” by Johnny Paycheck.

It was a catchy little tune and was humorous, however, the unkind message I never thought much about, until someone last year let me know what it really meant, and it was a rude awakening. I just thought it was like a “tall tale” or a “bluff” but really, some people think this way is okay to think and talk. And, since it can be innocuous, innocently taken or insidiously evil, if taken to the ninth degree….I can see God’s point, in cautioning me about it. “How will you raise my sons,” God says to me. “After all, in Baptism, they became my children, too.”

So, as I reflect at the end of this day, I realize that God is calling me to trust His inspirations, even if at first it seems impossible to break a routine, of listening to a certain Radio Station, or simply turning the dial, until the questionable song is over. Because, little ears are listening, and little eyes are seeing “Does mom or dad follow God, or not?”
