Uruguay congress legalizes abortion by one vote :: Catholic News Agency (CNA).

Montevideo, Uruguay, Sep 26, 2012 / 04:06 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- By a vote of 50-49, the Uruguayan congress passed a law during a late-night session on Sept. 25 legalizing abortion up to the 12th week of pregnancy.

The legislation now goes to the senate for approval and must be signed by President Jose Mujica who has already voiced his support for the measure.

It passed after more than 13 hours of debate and one day after thousands of pro-life advocates marched in the capital city of Montevideo, urging lawmakers to vote against the bill.

The law holds that a woman who wishes to obtain an abortion must appear before a commission of doctors and social workers who are to provide her with information about her choice. After a five-day waiting period, she will be free to decide whether to proceed with the abortion.

“Blessed Kateri – Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.” Her Feast Day is July 14.

Kateri was born in Auriesville, New York, in 1656 to a Christian Algonquin woman and a pagan Mohawk chief. When she was a child, a smallpox epidemic attacked her tribe and both her parents died. She was left with permanent scars on her face and impaired eyesight. Her uncle, who had now become chief of the tribe, adopted her and her aunts began planning her marriage while she was still very young.

When three Jesuit fathers were visiting the tribe in 1667 and staying in the tent of her uncle, they spoke to her of Christ, and though she did not ask to be baptized, she believed in Jesus with an incredible intensity. She also realized that she was called into an intimate union with God as a consecrated virgin.

The June 7 e-mail came from John Gehring, President Obama’s “Faith in Public Life“ Program Director.

A leaked e-mail shows that the Democratic-leaning organization “Faith in Public Life” is running a behind-the-scenes media effort to undercut the U.S. bishops and the “Fortnight for Freedom” events intended to rally opposition to the HHS mandate.

(Obama’s) “Faith in Public Life’s” recommended sources for interviews, as listed in Gehring’s e-mail, are John Gehring, Duquesne University law professor Nicholas Cafardi, Fordham University theology department chair Terrence W. Tilley, Boston College theology professor Lisa Sowle Cahill, Notre Dame Law School professor M. Cathleen Kaveny, Fairfield University religious studies professor Paul Lakeland, and Fr. Thomas Reese, S.J. of the Woodstock Theological Center.

The Catholic League’s Bill Donohue was critical of the media effort, saying “Gehring’s e-mail encouraged the media to “victimize the victim” and target those who refuse to compromise their principles.”

Interesting Note; that Democrats know which Catholic Democrats, like the liberal priest Fr. Thomas Reece are the ”GO TO CATHOLICS” who are On OBAMA’S SIDE …. So the Liberal News Outlets will try to make minced-meat, out of the Catholic Message of the Fortnight for Religious Freedom. Weak Catholics will therefore, be tempted to go against their Bishop’s direction. Pray for them.
