Branding God – Catholic Style

When women who are very famous do not live up to their own Mission Statement, and treat you like crap, behind the scenes; their sermons grate on your nerves. Seems their personality changes occurred right after tremendous losses – so perhaps her excessive perkiness is because she’s on Prozac. Since I know from personal experience how that drug affects the personality, I can only surmise that she maybe on drugs that affect her moods. Knowing that helps me to realize, that God will take that into consideration and He may mitigate her sins, or apparent sins.

But, excessive mile-a-minute talking is very unusual. Do pray for her. Thanks. I doubt she realizes how she comes across. If she has lost her witness with me, I wonder if it is the same with others who have interactions, with her. I caught her Spiritual Director one day say the same thing, that I was thinking, “It’s not all about you.”

So, I know it’s not just me, who notices it. That helped me, because sometimes, you need your hunches validated. Over selling God as if He is the newest car or soap invented, seems so 1960-ish, when women put a box of detergent close to their face and talked up their soap, so you will run out and buy it, right away, instead of your old brand.

I do not happen to think that you have to “Brand God,” in order to sell someone on His Love for them. They know He loves them. More often than not, you don’t love them, but you do love the sound of your own bossy voice. People don’t need to be “sold on God.” They sense they’re loved by Him.

Mother Angelica said, “You don’t learn about God, in books. It’s hard to understand, when you’re in the midst of pain.” (Tonight’s “Mother Angelica Live.”)

So those that Brand God – to sell their books or DVD’s are not reaching those who cannot buy and don’t want their books. If you do not have love, then your branding of God like a Commercial ain’t doing a damn bit of good for the poor :: that you lecture to all the time and talk down to.

God doesn’t need “branding” so you can get rich off of Him. Listen rather than talk, talk, talking all the time. Folks will turn the station if you sound phony or wrong.

Jesus is with you, even in silence. He knows whether you love Him or not. You don’t have to prove your lovability, to others. God knows you better than they do.

And, He is simple. You don’t need an iPhone to talk to Him. Just enjoy a smile or a sunset or glance interiorly at a good thought He shows you. God is love. He loves you. Love, Him.

Mother Angelica said it best for me, tonight: “You can go to Purgatory. You can go to Heaven, or You can go to Hell.”

“Go to Heaven!” ~ Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen said.
